Today we release a short but important tribute tune, “Det horn som viste vei” for instrument maker, Magnar Storbækken, who passed away too early.
It is performed live with one of his bukkehorns inside the Vigeland Mausoleum with a natural 20 second delay.

I was not able to fully thank Magnar for inspiring me to play the bukkehorn instrument and teaching me to craft bukkehorns on my own. In fact, when he asked me for the music I had made with his bukkehorn, I had not yet recorded the horn instruments in my studio yet. I was privileged who could drive a relatively short distance from my cabin to his workshop in Tolga and learn about one of Norway´s oldest instruments.
Therefore this tribute tune is also a reminder for all of us if we know someone in our lives who we don’t necessarily meet often but when we do meet there is an enormous amount of inspiration coming our way. Then, make sure to thank that person sooner than later. Tip of the day.

Magnar gave me my first professionally made bukkehorn on May 11th, 2021. He warned me that it’s not like learning to bike. Unless I practice a bit every day I won’t develop face muscles and lung capacity to master it.
Since then I have made many bukkehorns tuned in different keys allowing me to pick the right instrument for different musical arrangements on the upcoming concept album, “Nór”. Before its first single is released on the 1st of September, “For Vredens Saar”, I wanted to make sure you first listen to Magnars horn inside the epic Vigeland Mausoleum. Listen to “Det horn som viste vei” and welcome to the sound of one of Norway´s oldest instruments.
